On September 8th, 2015 Harinder Malhi, MPP for Brampton-Springdale hosted a community townhall with the Honorable Steven Del Duca, Minister of Transportation and Bruce McCuaig, President and CEO of Metrolinx to discuss Infrastructure, Transit & Transportation in Brampton.
With representatives from the trucking industry in attendance, the forum provided an opportunity for small and medium sized, local business owners & operators to engage in discussion on issues; or concerns related to their industry. The townhall also covered the expansion of HWY 410, additional GO Transit service, the Hurontario-Main LRT, as well as measures taken to improve safety and truck training standards for new and existing drivers.
Recent improvements at the Bramalea, Mount Pleasant and Brampton GO Stations have resulted in increased service, additional parking, platform extensions and heated shelters. Also on September 8th we saw the addition of 14 new train trips between Mount Pleasant GO Station and Union Station during off-peak midday hours from Monday to Friday.
Ontario’s long-term infrastructure plan which invests more than $130 billion over 10 years is the largest infrastructure investment in the province’s history. Through Moving Ontario Forward the government is investing in priority rapid transit projects that will connect to the GO Transit network and other transit systems across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA).
While townhalls offer a stage for the government to share its plan, they also create a forum for Ontarian’s to provide their feedback and insight to their local elected representatives. The provinces four-part plan is building Ontario up by investing in people's talents and skills, building new public infrastructure like roads and transit, creating a dynamic, innovative environment where business thrives, and building a secure retirement savings plan.
“Through continued investment, our government will provide infrastructure and transit solutions that will reduce travel times; diminish congestion all while providing a safer, more convenient alternative for Brampton residents to connect to their loved ones.”
